
ASH TWP. (WWJ) -- Investigators are searching for a hit-and-run driver who hit a person on a horse, late Tuesday night in Monroe County.
The horse was killed, officials said, and the 18-year-old rider was injured in the incident at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, on Telegraph Road near I-275 in Ash Township, north of Monroe.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the victim was riding a horse northbound on Telegraph when they were hit by a white car.
The victim, a Monroe County resident, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The horse died at the scene.
The driver did not stop after the crash, and sheriff's officials have not been able to track the suspect down.
The sheriff's office said the suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Toyota, unknown model, likely with damage to the front on the the passenger side. It will be missing its right sideview mirror, which was found at the scene.
An investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Uniform Services Division is ongoing.
