ROMULUS (WWJ) A barricaded standoff, involving a woman "held against her will", ends with an Ypsilanti man in custody.
Romulus Police said it happened on Tuesday, July 14, at a home on Amarillo near Cogswell and Ecorse roads.
Officers responded to reports of a domestic violence incident around 4:00 p.m. According to authorities, the 32-year-old suspect confronted police upon their arrival and threatened to "shoot and kill them" if they attempted to enter his home.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside the house with a woman, police said.
Officers heard the victim crying. She told them she was "not okay and being held against her will." Police secured the perimeter and attempted to make contact with both of them.
Authorities eventually activated the Western Wayne Special Operations Team.
Police said the suspect continued to issue threats during the standoff, including saying he would shoot officers if they walked past the window.
Officers evacuated nearby homes out of an abundance of caution, according to police.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., the suspect released the victim. The 37-year-old ran away from the house. Officers took her into protective custody.
Police said a records check revealed a history of domestic violence inside the home and an extensive criminal history for the suspect. They did not release the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
