Police in Michigan have launched an investigation after a car hit and killed a toddler who had walked out of her family’s home after being put to bed by her parents.
The Michigan State Police shared the news in a statement, noting that on Friday, the girl “got out of her bed and walked out of the house” while her parents were working around the home in Allen Township.
The Michigan State Police shared that they were called at around 8:20 p.m. about a “car versus pedestrian crash” where they found the young child on the road.
First responders worked quickly to transport the girl to a nearby hospital where “she succumbed to her injuries,” the statement shared.
Officials have shared that the girl is believed to have walked into the street, where she was struck by a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta being driven by a 38-year-old man.
At this time, the man’s identity has not been released, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
It was not shared if the man will face any charges as a result of the fatal crash.
An autopsy will be performed on the child, and the investigation remains ongoing at this point.
