
An American Airlines employee is dead after an accident on the tarmac at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The incident occurred Thursday while the employee was operating a ground service vehicle that struck a jet bridge, according to reports.
Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the airport shortly after 2 p.m. and found a person with traumatic injuries on the tarmac. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene.
Airport officials told reporters that the incident happened in the area where planes pull up to their gates at the terminal.
The death is being investigated as an accident.
"We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport," an American Airlines spokeswoman told the Associated Press. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members."
The airport released a similar statement, saying "Our thoughts are with this employee and all those impacted by today's tragic event."
Other details, including the name of the worker, were not released.
The incident did not cause any disruptions to airport operations, officials said.
