
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – At least 11 tornadoes touched down in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana as storms swept through the region Tuesday, according to National Weather Service officials.
NWS teams were assessing damage Wednesday. By evening, they confirmed nearly a dozen tornadoes of the lower-strength variety -- EF-0 and EF-1 -- had struck.
Tornadoes touched down in:
--Compton in Lee County
--Waterman, DeKalb County
--Hinckley to Big Rock, Dekalb and Kane counties
--Sugar Grove to Batavia, Kane County
--Elburn to Campton Hills, Kane County
--Geneva, Kane County
--Gary, Indiana
--South Barrington, Cook County
--Inverness, Cook County
--Mundelein, Lake County
--Hoffman Estates, Cook County
No serious injuries were reported, but property damage was evident Wednesday.
In Mundelein, dozens of residents were displaced at an apartment building that was severely damaged.
