For some Americans, it's hard to imagine a day without Starbucks. But just how much are people around the country shelling out to get their caffeine fix?

A new study has revealed that Vermont is the most expensive state to grab a Starbucks coffee.

The research, conducted by price-monitoring website Pricelisto, looked at the price of a coffee from the popular franchise to find which states were the most expensive and the cheapest on average.

Vermont topped the list as the most expensive state to grab a Starbucks coffee, with an average price of $5.73.

The second most expensive state is Wyoming, where an average Starbucks will set coffee lovers back by $5.32 per drink. South Dakota places third, where the average price is $5.27.

Arkansas appeared fourth in the ranking, with Starbucks costing $5.24, and New York, the city of which is famed for their love of coffee, came in fifth at $5.22.

As for the cheapest states for a caffeine boost, Maine boasts the most affordable Starbucks coffee at $4.44 -- 22% cheaper than Vermont.

Maryland is the second cheapest at $4.47, while Virginia is the third most cost-effective at $4.63 per coffee.

"A reason why prices may differ could be due to states having higher sales taxes or additional levies on certain goods, which can affect the final price consumers pay for their coffee," a spokesperson for Pricelisto said in a statement. "Another important factor for price variations is the difference in the cost of living among states. States with higher costs of living, such as California or New York, tend to have higher prices for goods and services, including coffee."
