Odds are there will be a lot of Barbies knocking on your door this Halloween night.

According to popular search trends on Google, Barbie has emerged as the top trending costume, surpassing all expectations.

"Barbie is the top trending costume of the year, believe it or not," says Jennifer Jones, Google Trends Expert.

But it's not just the classic pink Barbie that's driving the buzz. Jones explained, "It's some of the other characters that you saw in the Barbie movie, including Weird Barbie. Weird Barbies are actually searched twice as much as Western Barbies."

As families gear up for Halloween, the trend of dressing up together has gained popularity. Jones revealed that "the top search for family costumes is actually the Addams Family." Characters from Toy Story, the Mario video game, Flintstones, and Monsters Inc. also make for popular choices when families decide to coordinate their outfits. The iconic Wednesday Addams takes the lead as the most searched kids' costume this year, narrowly edging out Barbie.

Jones shared, "Wednesday Addams is number one followed by Barbie, and then we have a big crowd-pleaser: Spider-Man" as the third most popular choice for kids' costumes. For pet owners who want to involve their furry friends in the festivities, Chucky costumes dominate as the number one pet costume search. However, an unexpected highlight surfaced: the Ken dog costume. Jones disclosed, "It is a breakout pet costume search this year, and that's when someone goes as Barbie and they dress their dog as Ken."

Food also plays a significant role in Halloween festivities, with many seeking spooky-themed recipes. Jones suggested incorporating the word "spooky" into traditional dishes, such as spooky pasta salad made with black squid ink pasta. Other treats include spooky cinnamon rolls shaped like ghosts and spooky margaritas with a hint of fall flavors. Additionally, Jones shared some last-minute costume tips.

Those searching for quick and budget-friendly ideas can turn to Google's AI-powered platform, Bard. "A lot of folks have been going to our Bard, looking for costume ideas for the last minute," said Jones.
