A property in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., listed for close to $8 million by Sotheby’s International once belonged to the late beloved entertainment icon Betty White, according to realtors selling the home.
“The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen,” said realtor Nicole Truszkowski, referencing White’s late husband and T.V. personality Allen Ludden, according to People. “It was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home.”
Truszkowski and fellow relator Zak Freedman are handling the listing for the 3,621 sq. ft. beach house, which was built in 1981.
Located at 2625 Ribera Road, Sotheby’s International describes the home as “a mid-century masterpiece,” designed by architect Richard Hicks with a “storybook garden” as well as panoramic ocean views and outdoor decks. It has three stories, four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half-bathroom.
According to the Sotheby’s listing, Ribera Road is a “sought-after” location in Carmel, which is a small beach town on the Monterey Peninsula, around 330 miles from Los Angeles. The home has views of the Lobos Nature Reserve, Ribera Beach, and Monastery Beach “from nearly every room,” and is close to walking trails in the Carmel Meadows neighborhood.

“Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty's favorite things to do,” Truszkowski said. “She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends.”
White passed away on New Year’s Eve, less than a month before her 100th birthday. She was known for her long career in T.V.
and film, including her roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Golden Girls” among others.
The Los Angeles Times reported that this is the first time the Ribera Road property has been on the market since White and Ludden – who passed away in 1981 – bought it in 1978. At that time, it cost the couple $170,000 for the raw land.
