President Biden and members of his inner circle have reportedly confirmed to allies in recent days that he plans on running for reelection in 2024.
The comments come as the president's approval rating sits at an all-time low. Still, according to the report from the Washington Post, the president is looking to remedy that by confirming his commitment to another campaign.
The public approval of Biden currently sits around 41% as concerns continue to grow about inflation, faltering public health efforts to end the pandemic, Democrats fighting in Congress, and supply chain issues.
Many Democrats have assumed that the already oldest sitting president would not run for reelection, but this message is in an effort to put those assumptions to rest, the Post reported.
"The only thing I've heard him say is he's planning on running again," Chris Dodd, the former Democratic Sen. of Connection and friend of Biden, said to the Post. "And I'm glad he is."
The Post went on to say that President Biden told a small group of donors at a virtual fundraiser this month he plans on running for another term in the Oval Office.
During a news conference last March, the president said he has "never been able to plan 3½ , four years ahead, for certain."
Despite this, former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell shared with the Post that "What he is saying publicly is what he firmly believes. There's no difference."
Rendell, who was at the fundraiser, added that Biden "will not run if he feels he can't do the job physically or emotionally."
However, numerous Democrats are still skeptical of the president actually running for office again.
Political insiders shared with the Post he may just be doing so to avoid weakening his standing publicly. Others added that he might not be able to get through another campaign, citing that the 2020 campaign was relatively calm due to the pandemic.
The president turned 79-years-old on Saturday, and on Friday, he had a routine health checkup where his doctors described him as "healthy" and "vigorous."
