A weekend camping trip in northern Arizona has ended in tragedy after a woman fell more than 120 feet to her death from a cliff, roughly the height of a 12-story building.
Deputies in Coconino County said a 29-year-old camper was with a group along the Mogollon Rim early Saturday morning when she stepped away around 1 a.m. to look for a bathroom spot. Investigators believe she accidentally lost her footing near the cliff’s edge and fell about 120 feet.
Search and Rescue crews were called to the area and later recovered her body in rugged terrain below. Officials said there is no evidence of foul play and are treating the death as an accident.
The Mogollon Rim, a steep escarpment cutting across central Arizona, is a popular camping and hiking destination but is known for its sharp drop-offs and limited visibility at night.
