Canadians are very good at some things -- ice hockey, politeness, being slightly American, adding 'eh' to the end of sentences -- but now they're messing with a classic and the internet isn't sure how they feel about it.
What's the classic, you're probably wondering? Pizza.
It's not easy to shock the world anymore, but an 18-year-old Windsor resident managed it by sharing an image of a pizza cooked up Canadian-style. By that we mean it was covered in shredded pepperoni.
"Fun fact about Ontario (where I live) is that we shred our pepperoni before putting it on pizza,' he wrote. We'll let you decide if it's a fun fact or Canada declaring an act of war.
Don't worry, the picture hit us in the eye like a big pizza pie, too.
"This seems like an excellent idea," one response said on X. "I hate halfway biting into a slice only to pull out an entire disc of pepperoni, and with it drags out everything it was attached to. It takes away from the pepperoni meant for later. It being thinner would allow it to get crispy instead of hard."
The Windsor-ite clarified his stance to say the trend seems to be centered in Windsor and not Ontario as a whole. And the beauty of it, while in the eye of the beholder, is that you get a taste of salty, spicy pepperoni in every bite.
Shredding pepperoni ... is it something we'll all start doing? We'll have to wait and see. But we do know that sizzling cheese right up to the edge of a square pizza like Detroit does has been exported north of the border so maybe it'll be a fair exchange.
"Yup, we've got some Detroit style pizza on over here. I know Little Ceasars and Pizza Hut sell Detroit style." Oxford W0lf wrote.
One commenter noted that he'd seen shredded pepperoni in Germany, and in the UK. But never, ever in Rome, Italy, the birthplace of the world's most popular food.
Still, "we'll allow it" one commenter wrote.
