PASADENA, Calif. (KNX) — Pasadena police had some unusual help in tracking down a suspected car thief last week: an amateur K-9 unit by the name of Kazoo.

Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to a call in the area of 1000 East Union Street on Thursday regarding a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, the suspect had fled the location in the victim’s vehicle. To make matters worse, Kazoo, the victim’s dog, was still in the car.

“What our suspect didn’t know was that the victim’s canine companion had a special collar that was able to provide us with the GPS location of not only the dog but also the suspect and the stolen vehicle,” Pasadena police said in a statement posted to Facebook on Wednesday.

Officers monitored the GPS tracker online and with assistance from Los Angeles police were able to stop and apprehend the suspect in the area of the 105 Freeway and Imperial Highway.

Kazoo was reunited with his owner shortly thereafter.
