One of the two Louisiana Democrats elected to Congress says it's time for members of his party to stop griping about the election.

Rep. Troy Carter (D-New Orleans) says it’s time for Democrats to turn the page and begin working to serve the American people. According to Carter, member of both major parties must come together to find solutions to serve the best interest of the United States and its people.

"The election is over, and it's time now for American and Americans to begin the healing process and to get back to the job of governing," Carter said. "We can disagree vehemently on policy. We we cannot disagree on is doing what's right, fair, honest, and just for the American people."

While speaking with WWL's Newell Normand on Friday, Carter put his statements in the context of hurricane recovery not only in Louisiana but also in the areas of Appalachia hardest hit by Hurricane Hélène.

"The American people are deserving of a government that works for them notwithstanding our party affliations, notwithstanding whatever differences we may within our ideological views," Carter said. "We must, must carry out those basic functions of government."

Carter was reelected to his seat representing Louisiana's Second Congressional District last week.
