NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Beloved children’s book author Beverly Cleary has died at the age of 104, her publisher said Friday.
Cleary, who penned more than 40 books throughout her decades-long career, including the “Ramona," “Henry Huggins” and “Ralph S. Mouse” series, passed away in Carmel, California on Thursday, HarperCollins said in a press release.
“We are saddened by the passing of Beverly Cleary, one of the most beloved children’s authors of all time,” HarperCollins Children’s Books’ president and publisher, Suzanne Murphy, said in a statement. “Looking back, she’d often say, ‘I’ve had a lucky life,’ and generations of children count themselves lucky too—lucky to have the very real characters Beverly Cleary created, including Henry Huggins, Ramona and Beezus Quimby, and Ralph S. Mouse, as true friends who helped shape their growing-up years.”
