CNN reported this week that Kasie Hunt, an anchor for the network, gave birth in her bathroom after just 13 minutes of labor on March 1.
According to the report, Hunt didn’t even have time to call the hospital before she welcomed her second child into the world. Her husband, husband Matthew Mario Rivera, helped her deliver along with help from an operator.
“I’m no stranger to breaking news, I’m definitely a stranger to this,” said the 37-year-old chief national affairs analyst in a phone interview with the outlet.
According to People magazine, Hunt and Rivera named their new daughter Grey Hunt Rivera. She weighed in at 8 lbs., 4 oz. Before the speedy birth, the couple thought that Grey would be delivered via C-section.

Instead, 911 operators and the DC Fire & EMS team helped them through the process over the phone and the “the incredibly intense moments right after she was born and as she took her first breaths,” before paramedics eventually arrived. Firefighters and the paramedics treated Hunt and Grey at home before transporting them to Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C.
She was also welcomed by her older brother Mars, 3, who his parents said “can’t stop talking about his new baby sister.”
Hunt shared photos of Mars staring at his new baby sister on her Instagram page.
“We’re so excited about life as a family of four – and reminded it’s going to be that much more unpredictable,” the couple told People.
Although Hunt didn’t plan to give birth in her own bathroom, home births have been on the rise in recent years. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there was a 12% increase in home births from 2020 to 2021, following a 22% increase from 2019 to 2020.
