In Maryland, a deli clerk was pepper sprayed and stabbed while trying to stop a man from stealing the business’ tip jar last Thursday, according to authorities.
The alleged thief, Bryant Whack, 32, of Silver Springs, was arrested after the stabbing at Max’s Kosher Café, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Whack was panhandling inside the Café at around 12:38 on Thursday when he allegedly stole a tip jar from the counter and walked out of the deli.
At that point, an employee followed Whack out of the deli and confronted him for stealing the tip. Whack then pepper sprayed the employee before stabbing them and fleeing the area, police shared.
Police shared that the victim was an adult male and was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition but offered no other update on his condition.
Whack was then located and apprehended by police running from the scene. He is facing first-degree assault charges and is being held without bond.
