An Ohio mother is facing a felony child endangerment charge after police say she shot her 5-year-old son during an incident that was fueled by alcohol.
It happened around 5 p.m. on July 16, while the boy was lying next to his mother on a couch at a home in Columbus, police said in a statement posted to Facebook.
According to police, 30-year-old Trenise Turner was intoxicated and pointing her handgun at several adults in the home and making threats. As she was putting the gun back in her purse, she fired a shot, striking her son in the legs.
Police were alerted to the situation after the boy was brought to Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound that went through both knees. He was in stable condition and underwent corrective surgery.
Turner was taken into custody and remains jailed without bond.
