Dustin Diamond, 'Saved By The Bell' star, dead at 44 following cancer battle: 'did not suffer'

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Dustin Diamond, who played Samuel "Screech" Powers on the original "Saved By The Bell," died Monday morning, following a battle with cancer. He was 44.

“Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful,” the actor’s spokesman, Roger Paul, said in a statement.

Last month Diamond began undergoing chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with cancer, according to Paul.

After he was hospitalized n Florida, his team disclosed he had cancer.

“Dustin has completed his first round of chemo and his next round is being scheduled. He will also begin his physical therapy soon,” the actor’s spokesman, Roger Paul, said in a statement at the time.

“Dustin is looking forward to spending more time with his girlfriend, playing his bass guitar/video games, as well as making videos for his fans on social media,” Paul added.
