ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A worrying wave of messages threatening violence at schools in Metro Detroit continues Wednesday with the most recent threat made against staff and students at South Lake High School.

The St. Clair Shores police told WWJ that they were currently evacuating South Lake High School after becoming aware of a threat around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A tipster calling into WWJ said there are a dozen Michigan State Police and Saint Clair Shores police cars at the school in the area off 9 Mile Rd. between Harper and Greater Mack Ave.

In an earlier message to parents, school administrators said students were entering a lockdown after the threat became known.

"Good Morning South Lake High School Parents and Guardians," the message reads. "This high school administration was recently made aware of a threat to the safety of our students and staff. All students will be held in their second hour classroom as we work with the St. Clair Shores Police Department to ensure everyone's safety. We will send additional updates as we work through this situation."

No other details regarding the threat were made public. The incident remains under active investigation.

School officials across the Metro Detroit area say students who see or hearing anything concerning are encouraged to submit tips to a confidential line through the state’s Ok2Say app or website.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
