(WWJ) Officials at Henry Ford Health System are alerting the community about a new phone scam that’s circulating in metro Detroit.
Operators at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital have been fielding up to 200 calls a day from people who've received calls that appear to be coming from the hospital’s main phone number — (586) 263-2300 — with the person on the line asking for personal banking information.

In some instances, the name of a former Henry Ford doctor is showing up on their caller ID.
Those who answer the calls report they are greeted by someone claiming to owe the call recipient money and requesting personal banking information in order to issue a “refund.”
It believed the scammers are using software to “spoof” the hospital’s phone number.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) officials say to ignore the calls and never give out any personal banking information over the phone.
Consumers who believe they’ve been the victim of a spoofing scam can file a complaint with the FCC.
More information about how to avoid spoofing can be found at www.fcc.gov.
