Honda has issued a recall for select models of its Accord and HR-V vehicles from 2023-24 due to a missing piece in the front seatbelt pretensioners.
The recall notice was posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, noting that a rivet may be missing, which secures the quick connector and wire plate.
Without the rivet, the pretensioners, which tighten the seat belt upon impact, may not protect those who get into crashes, creating an increased injury risk.
Honda and the NHTSA shared that more than 300,000 Accords and HR-Vs may be affected by this issue, which is believed to have been caused by an error on the assembly line.
No injuries have resulted from the recall, according to the NHTSA, but Honda has received several warranty claims from customers who noticed the issue.
Owners of potentially affected vehicles will be notified starting in January. Those who have paid to have the issue fixed may be eligible for reimbursement from the car manufacturer.
