Since a toll-free tip line was established Monday to find information regarding a child who was found dead Saturday more than 200 calls from the public have poured in, according to the Indiana State Police.
“Unfortunately, none of those calls have led to the identification of the deceased child,” authorities said in a statement Tuesday. “Many of those calls related to information of children already documented as missing.”
Investigators asked the public not to call in with information regarding children already identified as missing, as those cases are already being worked on.
Police also said an autopsy conducted Tuesday did not provide information regarding the child’s cause of death.
“Results of the toxicology report are still pending, and investigators are hopeful that information will shed more light on the cause of death,” authorities said.
The child was found on the 7000 block of East Holder Road in rural Washington County, located in the Southern portion of Indiana. While the autopsy was not able to determine a cause of death, information from the exam indicates the child was approximately 5 years old.
“He is described as a black male, approximately [4-ft.] tall, with a slender build and short haircut,” said police. “Tragically, the child was located inside a closed hard case suitcase. The suitcase has a distinctive Las Vegas design on its front and back.”
A reporter from WDRB News in Louisville, Ky., shared a photo of the suitcase on Twitter. Investigators hope the suitcase image might lead to more specific tips and eventually, identification of the child.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the toll-free number at 1-888-437-6432.
