Ice cream fans across North Texas and around the world can grab a free scoop Tuesday as Ben & Jerry’s celebrates its annual Free Cone Day.

Participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops are handing out one free cup or cone of any available flavor from noon to 8 p.m. local time on April 14, 2026. No purchase is required, there is no fine print, and customers may get back in line for additional scoops if they wish. Many locations also offer dairy-free and vegan options.

The tradition began in 1979 when founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield gave away free cones at their original Burlington, Vermont, shop to thank early customers during the brand’s first year. What started as a small gesture has grown into a global event that typically draws long lines but delivers a day of goodwill and community fun. This year the company hopes to hand out more than one million scoops worldwide.

Local Scoop Shops are expected to take part, though hours and participation can vary slightly by location. Fans should use the Ben & Jerry’s shop locator on the company website to confirm the nearest participating store and avoid any surprises.

Ben & Jerry’s, now with hundreds of Scoop Shops globally, continues to use the promotion as a way to connect with fans while highlighting its creative flavors and commitment to quality ingredients.
