The first lady says questions and concerns about President Joe Biden's mental fitness are "ridiculous."

Jill Biden did not mince words during an interview with "CBS Sunday Morning," when she was confronted with recent polling that showed "quite a few Americans" have some questions about the president's current mental fitness.

"I think that's ridiculous," Biden said, shaking her head.

The poll, conducted in November by Morning Consult/Politico, showed that 46 percent of respondents think the president "is mentally fit," while 48 percent disagreed.

Republicans have repeatedly blasted the 79-year-old president as mentally unfit, attacks that only draw laughs and eye rolls from the Bidens. Doctors say he is in good health and fit for office.

The first lady sees the poll numbers "a little bit differently" than others. She said once the public realizes what the president has accomplished, their opinion will "turn around."

"During the campaign, Joe made certain promises, things that he would do," she said. "And we were going through a pandemic, which no one could have anticipated. So he did come in and rescue America with the American Rescue Plan. And millions of families got money because they were desperate. We have vaccines for ages five and up and now with the infrastructure plan, we're going to have better roads and better buildings that don't have asbestos and better drinking water."

The president has described his wife as one of his most important advisers, but the first lady says that's not exactly her role.

"I listen to him, he listens to me. It's a marriage. And, you know, we talk about what's going on every day and what's going on with our lives," she explained. "I'm not his adviser. I'm his spouse. I'm his wife."

As far as her duties to the White House, Biden admitted that the job of first lady is "a little harder" than she imagined.

"It's not like a job that you do; it's a lifestyle that you live, and it's not something you leave at five or at three," she explained. "It's 24 hours a day."

Even still, Biden said being first lady is a role she cherishes.
