Law firm that secured record $27 million settlement for George Floyd's family hired to represent Renee Good

Firm is promising to share information from their investigation so public officials "see and understand the facts"

A high profile national law firm that won a record $27 million settlement for the family of George Floyd will represent the family of Renee Good, the woman shot last week in Minneapolis by an ICE agent.

In a press release, attorney Antonio Romanucci says his legal team intends to conduct its civil investigation with an understanding that transparency is essential, of national importance, and that the community is not receiving transparency about this case elsewhere.

“People in Minneapolis and across this country truly, truly care about what happened to Renee Good on January 7, 2026, and are committed to understanding how she could have been killed on the street after dropping her child off at school," wrote Antonio M. Romanucci, Founding Partner of Romanucci and Blandin.

He says they intend to share information learned in the investigation on a rolling basis so that both public officials and concerned individuals can see and understand the facts.

“It is always challenging to pursue litigation against state and local law enforcement officers because of the many immunities they are afforded," Romanucci adds. "But legal action against the federal government is even more complex, as it requires victims to navigate the byzantine, time-consuming processes mandated by the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). Even after following those processes, a lawsuit filed in court is then argued in front of a federal judge – not a jury of community members – to determine how justice is served. This process will not deter us in any way from fervently pursuing justice on behalf of Renee Good.”

Meanwhile, CNN is reporting that the Pentagon is working to surge dozens of military lawyers to Minneapolis to assist in federal prosecutions amid an immigration enforcement crackdown according to two officials familiar with the matter, and a written request that has circulated inside the Defense Department.

The emailed request, reviewed by CNN, says that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has directed the military services to identify 40 judge advocate general officers, from which 25 will be selected to serve as special assistant United States attorneys in Minneapolis.
