A mother of two young children in Louisiana fatally shot a home invader in the hours before dawn Sunday morning, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Rheams, 51, violently entered the home toting a shovel and a lug wrench as weapons, TPSO said.

Upon entry, Rheams and the mother fought and the altercation ended when she shot Rheams, TPSO Chief Jimmy Travis told KLFY.

Rheams was on parole after 20 years in prison for armed robbery.

Police also connected him to a carjacking just hours before his death.

Rheams was pronounced dead on the scene. The Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s office is reviewing the shooting and determining whether to press charges against the mother, Travis said.
