A 34-year-old man was recently arrested after investigators looked into multiple cases of homeless and disabled people injured with a high-powered, motorized water gun.

According to a Facebook post from the Houston Police Department in Texas, Christopher Cayce has been charged with assault bodily injury. During the investigation by the department’s Major Offenders Division and the Westside Crime Suppression Team, officers discovered that Cayce taunted his victims and put videos of the incidents on social media.

While people might associate water guns with harmless summer fun, motorized water guns are not the same as Super Soakers that rely on pressurized air that is manually pumped. High powered water guns and shooting water beads have become a trend in recent years, especially with the viral popularity of the “Senior Assassin” game among teens.

Journalist Tia Ewing reported on the trend earlier this year, focusing on guns that look eerily similar to real firearms. In 2022, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho issued a warning about a trend where people were shooting water beads at strangers.
