WASHINGTON (1010 WINS) -- U.S. Capitol Police in Washington arrested a man Tuesday morning inside a vehicle it earlier said was "suspicious" parked in front of the Supreme Court of the United States.
"One of our teams just moved in and extracted the man from the SUV. The man is in custody. Everyone is safe," U.S. Capitol Police tweeted at 11 a.m., an hour and 10 minutes after it first tweeted about the man's vehicle.
Capitol Police have scheduled a news conference at 11:45 a.m.
The incident comes one day after the Supreme Court's new term kicked off, and after protesters on both sides of the abortion issue converged on the Court. The Court will take up contentious issues including an abortion rights case that is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade.
"NOW: We are investigating a suspicious vehicle in front of the Supreme Court along First Street, NE. Please stay away from the area. We will provide more information as soon as we can," U.S. Capitol Police initially tweeted.
Police also listed street closures because of the investigation.
