Police confirmed that a mass shooting at an Arkansas car show has resulted in the death of one person and 24 people being wounded on Saturday night.
Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch informed reporters on Saturday that a suspect has been taken into custody, but an investigation into whether or not there were multiple shooters is still ongoing, KATV reported.
Arkansas State Police shared a statement with NBC News confirming the arrest and that the search would be continuing for “others who may have been firing into the crowd” on Sunday.
The shooting resulted in multiple children being injured, with a total of 24 civilians being hurt, according to police. All are expected to survive their injuries.
At around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, state troopers responded to a report of gunfire outside a business where a car show was taking place, Bill Sadler, a spokesperson for the Arkansas State Police, said.
The car show is held annually and is a way to raise money for scholarships and school supplies, according to Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization’s website.
There have not been any details released yet on the suspect arrested or how the shooting unfolded, but the car show organizer Wallace McGehee shared with KATV that for 16 years, the show had no issues.
“We don’t really know what happened, but we just want to send our prayers to all of our friends in this community. We’re here with yall,” McGehee told KATV.
He continued saying that the shooting was a tragedy but that the community of Dumas, located 90 miles southeast of Little Rock, Arkansas, would bounce back.
“We want our community to come back and be strong. We’re going to get through this,” McGehee said.
