CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — McDonald’s will debut two new sauces at locations across the United States in October, with one of them being the fast food giant’s best take on mumbo sauce — AKA mambo sauce — a sweet and spicy classic with roots in Washington D.C. and Chicago.

McDonald’s will be calling its new offering Mambo sauce, and it’ll make its debut alongside a Sweet and Spicy Jam

Officials said the two offerings pull from “decades of rich food history and tradition in local restaurants and home kitchens.”

Washington D.C. has the strongest ties to mumbo sauce, but the sauce itself can be traced back to Chicago’s South Side, where U.S. Navy veteran Argia Collins created and sold the sauce at his restaurant. Collins eventually trademarked Mumbo sauce — despite challenges from a Washington D.C. entrepreneur.

McDonald’s said the sauces will be available for a limited time. Participating restaurants will have the sauce starting Oct. 9.
