A text message screenshot posted by former first Lady Melania Trump’s Chief of Staff Stephanie Grisham on Twitter Tuesday seems to indicate that the first lady refused to tweet in favor of “peaceful” protesting on Jan. 6.

During the Tuesday House select committee meeting, Grisham tweeted the image with no caption. It shows a blue text bubble (typically the color a sender sees their message in on an iPhone) that reads “Do you want to tweet that peaceful protests are the right of every American, but there is no place for lawlessness & violence?”

In response, a contact named “MT” said, simply, “no.”

According to the Washington Examiner, Grisham confirmed that “MT” was Melania Trump.

“I resigned immediately after her response,” Grisham told the outlet. She also mentioned it in her book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in The Trump White House”.

When the book was published in October, a spokesperson for Melania Trump said it contained “mistruth and betrayal,” in an attempt to make money.

As Grisham posted the text exchange Tuesday, Rep.
Liz Cheney questioned
former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson about what happened during the deadly U.S. Capitol riot last January. Hutchinson recalled hearing protestors chant “Hang Mike Pence” as they stormed the grounds.

When she told former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and other staffers something needed to be done about the rioters, Meadows said that President Trump didn’t think they were doing anything wrong. In fact, Trump was amused by them, per Hutchinson’s interview with the committee.

“Proud of Cassidy & all who have chosen to stand up for the truth despite the personal implications,” said Grisham in another tweet.
