A Mississippi mother didn't think twice about turning her own sons over to police after they were accused of shooting at an officer during a traffic stop.

The woman didn't know if her sons were involved, but she recognized them after seeing a news report that shared footage of the suspects captured on a Ring doorbell camera shortly after the shooting.

"I was like, 'Are you serious? Oh, hell no.' I got up, and I asked questions," the mother, who did not want to be named, told WMC-TV. "I don't play no games with them. If you're going to do the crime, you're going to do the time. Plain and simple."

The 17- and 18-year-old boys are accused of shooting at an officer during a traffic stop. It happened around 4:30 a.m. on April 2 in Holly Springs, just south of the Tennessee-Mississippi border and about 55 miles from Memphis.

An officer was attempting to pull over a vehicle that was reportedly driving erratically with no headlights on when the car took off. After a brief pursuit, someone inside the vehicle fired shots at the officer, striking the patrol vehicle.

Another officer who responded to the area spotted the suspects, who abandoned their vehicle and took off running into nearby woods. They were later caught on a ring door camera in the neighborhood.

The teens are charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and could be facing additional charges. Their names have not been released. Reports indicate a third person of interest may also face charges in the case.
