Tech billionaire Elon Musk shared on Wednesday that he is not contributing to the reelection campaigns of Joe Biden or Donald Trump after speculation arose that he might.
On Tuesday evening, the New York Times reported that Musk had recently met with Trump, who was looking to close the funding gap with Biden. NBC News reported that in September, Musk had also met with Biden administration officials.
Musk, who is often grouped with the far-right for conspiracies that he partakes in related to the Biden administration, has been expected to be a big donor this political season, especially after he engaged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to announce his presidential campaign on his platform X.
In a post on X on Wednesday morning, Musk clarified the report from the Times, sharing that he had no intention to donate to the two men.
“Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President,” Musk wrote.
Later on Wednesday, Musk shared criticism of politics and the United States government, writing that “Politics is tribal, rather than logical.”
“The power of government grows ever stronger with each passing year,” Musk wrote with a quote from the book “Dune,” written by author Frank Herbert.
As for his donations, since 2020, Musk has only donated upwards of $26,000, according to data from the Federal Election Commission. Musk made 19 donations in total, $15,013 to Republicans and $11,218 to Democrats.
