Woman charged with using ATV to run over husband when he asked for divorce

“There was some alcohol involved,” a sheriff told a news outlet.

Police in Oklahoma arrested a woman they say used an all-terrain vehicle to mow down her husband after he asked her for a divorce.

The sheriff’s office in Pottawatomie County said the couple was at a campground when they began arguing over food. When Christopher Lewis told his wife, Chanelle, he wanted a divorce, she was enraged, his son told KFOR.

That’s when Chanelle allegedly jumped on the ATV, slammed on its accelerator, and bolted right toward her husband, running him over and killing him.

Then she gunned it toward her stepson and his sister, missing them but getting punched in the face herself in the process, Christopher’s son said.

“That little girl was screaming saying her dad was dead,” a 911 caller shouted to dispatchers. “Somebody ran her dad over and said he was dead out on one of our trails.”

“There was some alcohol involved,” a sheriff told the news outlet.

After first charging Chanelle with manslaughter, the sheriff upped the charge to second-degree murder.
