On Tuesday, police in Phoenix investigating a Dumpster fire in the city made a more gruesome discovery when they stumbled upon a body inside the trash receptacle.

The Phoenix Police Department shared that they made the discovery just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday while investigating the fire in the area, ABC15 reported.

“The victim was not able to be identified due to the burn injuries covering his body,” police said.

An investigation has now been launched into the discovery of the body, though police noted they are only in the “beginning stages.”

Fox10 spoke with a business owner from the area, who shared that the part of the city is often referred to as “The Zone” because of the number of homeless people there. He also noted that it is starting to get dangerous.

“This stuff is starting to be insane. It’s happening more and more,” David Hibbard, the owner of Audio Visions, told the media outlet.

Hibbard went on to share that the police collected security footage from his store in order to try and piece together what happened. He shared that he thought he saw “two guys” potentially “toss” someone into the trash container. However, he said he didn’t see them light the man on fire.

Hibbard stressed that the situation is getting grim, not only for those living in the area but for those operating businesses there as well. Fox10 reported that in The Zone, in November, a dead fetus was found burned in the middle of the street.

“This is ridiculous. All these business owners, we can’t operate a business if you have to go through this,” said Hibbard.

No further details about the suspect or the investigation have been shared by police at this time.
