A K-9 in Michigan is in hot water after he allegedly stole a police officer's lunch.

The theft occurred at the headquarters of the Wyandotte Police Department, where Officer Cade Barwig was eating lunch in the breakroom when he was called away to assist with a person in the city's jail.

"[Barwig] quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table," police said on Facebook.

When Bawrig returned, he discovered his entire lunch was "gone ... disappeared, vanished." He also noticed the dog, named Ice, "leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops," police said.

The department immediately started investigating but said Ice "invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent" and was not cooperating with the investigation. This also wasn't the first time Ice has been accused.

"He has a history of rummaging through trash cans that are within his reach.  There have been several other accusations of him taking food right from coworker's hands as they walk by," police said.

The social media post, which features a mugshot of Ice, has garnered more than 18,000 comments from people, most of whom defended the K-9.

In an update, police joked that they were "threatened with massive protests if we move forward with our investigation and/or charges." Not to mention "the overall public just doesn’t believe he is guilty. No video has been produced," police said, adding that Ice even had volunteer legal representation.

"Dozens of attorneys have offered to defend Ofc Ice pro-bone-o," the department said.

One of his supporters even dropped off a sandwich for Ice, saying the dog obviously isn't getting enough to eat.

"That being said Ofc. Ice will not face any internal discipline or criminal charges," police said.

It's unclear if Ice will face any increased supervision or be allowed to linger near the breakroom going forward.
