Robert F. Kennedy Jr. decided to take a shot at former President Donald Trump on Saturday for what he called a “barely coherent” rant that Trump had on Truth Social on Friday night.
“When frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol, which makes them sound unhinged,” Kennedy said in a post on X. “President Trump’s rant against me is a barely coherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims that should best be resolved in the American tradition of presidential debate.”
The remarks from RFK came after Trump decided to open the floodgates on the independent presidential candidate in a series of posts on his social media site.
Trump argued that Kennedy wasn’t really an independent candidate but a ploy from Democrats to help President Biden. He also slammed his running mate, Nichole Shanahan, saying she wasn’t a serious vice presidential pick.
“RFK Jr. is a Democrat ‘Plant,’ a Radical Left Liberal who’s been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, get Re-Elected,” Trump wrote. “A Vote for Junior’ would essentially be a WASTED PROTEST VOTE, that could swing either way, but would only swing against the Democrats if Republicans knew the true story about him.”
These weren’t the first comments Trump has shared about Kennedy, as he previously dubbed him more liberal than Biden.
“RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters,” Trump wrote earlier this month. “I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America.”
However, Kennedy set his sights on the future, praising Trump as a debater, but said he doesn’t have to panic over the idea of them sharing a debate stage.
“President Trump, who has proven himself the most adept debater in modern American political history, should not be panicked to meet me on that stage,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said that he would go after Trump’s support for Ukraine funding after boasting he would end the war, the national debt crisis, and what he said was his failed attempt to drain the “swamp.”
“He promised to end the Ukraine war and then colluded with Speaker Johnson and President Biden to fund it,” Kennedy said. “He let Big Pharma and his corrupt bureaucrats run roughshod over him as president. He promised to cut the deficit and ran up the biggest debt in history. He promised to run the government like a business and then closed down our businesses. He promised to drain the swamp and then filled his administration with swamp creatures. He promised to protect our rights and then torpedoed the Constitution.”
He then challenged Trump directly, saying the former president should “defend his record to me mano-a-mano by respectful, congenial debate.”
