A new study of auto accidents sought to decipher which car brand attracts the worst drivers by using insurance data as its basis.

The result? Tesla drivers were found to have the highest accident rates.

The study by LendingTree took into account DUIs and other vehicular incidents in determining which drivers were the most likely to be dangerous on the road.

Tesla drivers had the highest rate with 23.54 accidents per every 1,000 drivers.

The study used data taken from the 12-month period from November 2022 through November 2023.

Only two other brands had more than 20 accidents per 1,000 drivers – Ram (22.76) and Subaru (20.9). Ram drivers led when it came to a broader category of “driving incidents” that also included speeding citations with 32.9 incidents per every 1,000 drivers.

Tesla came in second in that ranking (31.13) with Subaru again in third (30.09). No other brand had more than 30 incidents per 1,000 drivers.

Brands with the fewest accidents: Pontiac (8.41), Mercury (8.96) and Saturn (9.13)
