Lt. Col. Allen West and his wife Angela have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Texas gubernatorial candidate was hospitalized while he battles the virus. In a tweet, he said that there is concern about his oxygen saturation levels and that his chest x-rays have found COVID pneumonia.

West stated that both he and his wife had received the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy, which is used to treat those in the early stages of the infection. He also stated that he is taking Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin, both unproven treatments that have been supported by former President Donald Trump's followers.

Even hospitalized, West said he supports treatments over vaccine mandates.

"I can attest that, after this experience, I am even more dedicated to fighting against vaccine mandates. Instead of enriching the pockets of Big Pharma and corrupt bureaucrats and politicians, we should be advocating the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy," West tweeted. Experts noted that such treatments are much more expensive than the vaccine and it's better to never let the virus ravage the body than to seek pricey treatments after it does.

According to his Twitter account, West is not vaccinated, but his wife Angela did receive the vaccine. West has publicly stated he supports individual choice, not vaccine mandates, and this is reflected in his own family.

Last July, West announced that he will challenge Republican Governor Greg Abbott who is seeking a third term.
