Texas standoff with Joe Biden continues

Texas is continuing to go toe-to-toe with President Joe Biden and his administration, showing no signs of backing down and following orders to take down razor wire on the border, despite a ruling from the Supreme Court last week.

On Monday, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick instead vowed to step up the fortifications at the border in an attempt to stop illegal crossings.

“We are putting up wire…everywhere we can. We will continue. We will not stop,” Patrick told Fox News on Monday. “If they cut it, we will replace it.”

The wire was erected at a park in Eagle Pass, Texas, along the Rio Grande River, which is a hotspot for border crossings.

Now, Texas is not only using razor wire but also some of its National Guard members to keep the park in Eagle Pass locked down.

“I was down [in Eagle Pass] Friday with our troops to thank them, support them, and also to stand with them in the event the Biden administration did send Border Patrol there,” he said. “Wisely, they did not…. We don’t want a confrontation, but we want this border secure.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and President Biden were sent a letter on Monday from 26 Republican governors and 26 Republican attorneys general accusing the two of neglecting their constitutional duty to protect states from foreign invaders.

Abbott has used this argument, claiming that Biden failed to uphold Article Four of the Constitution.

“The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States. The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them,” Abbott said.

The governors and attorneys general noted similar feelings in their letter.

“States have an independent duty to defend against invasion,” the attorneys general wrote, adding, “Your Administration is helping individuals complete their illegal entry into the United States.”
