Eight Texas middle school students are recovering after some suspicious candy sent them to the hospital.
Police say the students ate candy initially believed to be laced with narcotics on Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from Granbury city officials. The candy was distributed by a classmate at Granbury Middle School, about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
"Granbury Police and Texas EMS responded. The students were taken to the hospital. All are ok," the statement said.
An initial test of the candy resulted in a negative result for THC. Other tests are pending.
At this point, officials aren't exactly sure what made the students sick.
Authorities didn't indicate what symptoms the students were suffering or why they suspect the candy was laced.
Police are working with school authorities to investigate the incident.
