Despite claiming that he had aced two cognitive tests last week, former President Donald Trump appeared to have another slip up on Saturday when he seemed to confuse President Joe Biden with former PResident Barack Obama yet again.
Trump, 77, delivered the speech to his supporters in Virginia on Saturday night as he continues to campaign for the 2024 GOP presidential nominee.
The mixup between Biden and Obama seemed to come while Trump was discussing Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
“Putin has so little respect for Obama that he’s starting to throw around the nuclear word. You heard that. Nuclear. He’s starting to talk nuclear weapons today,” Trump said.
The crowd went silent after Trump invoked Obama’s name, which may have been from confusion, being that Obama left office in 2016 and Trump never ran against him as an opponent.
This is not the first time that Trump has had mixed up his political opponents, confusing Biden, 81, and Obama frequently, and even confusing GOP rival Nikki Haley and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
In January, Trump explained the gaffs, saying that he was invoking his name on purpose because “Obama is running the show.”
As a result, many have begun questioning Trump’s cognitive abilities just like they have Biden’s, with Haley asking whether or not he was “mentally fit” for another term.
According to one ABC News poll, 56% of Americans think the answer to that question is no for him and Biden. Still, that number remains even higher for Biden at 86%.
The mix up also came after Trump attacked Biden last week for skipping out on a cognitive test at his annual physical. Trump shared on social media that his opponent must take a test to prove he is capable.
“Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test. Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I took two of them, and ACED them both (no mistakes!). All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take this test!”
