Who is the greatest president in U.S. history? According to President Donald Trump it is… himself.
Trump shared an infographic on Truth Social this week that placed him in a league of his own above all of the other 44 men who have served as leaders of our country. He was labeled as “The Greatest” in the chart.
After Trump came the “Great” category, featuring presidents Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. In the “Near Great” category sat presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland, John Adams and James Polk.
Those were followed by presidents in the “Average” and “Below Average” categories, with the “Failures” category at the bottom. Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Ulysses S. Grant, Warren G. Harding and Jimmy Carter were placed in the last category.
It’s not the first time Trump has taken to the social media platform partially owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) to praise himself. Earlier this year, he received backlash after posting an image on Truth Social that appeared to depict him as Jesus (though Trump claimed it depicted him as a doctor) and Catholic Vice President JD Vance had to defend the commander-in-chief.
Trump’s list also goes against surveys of Americans in general and historians regarding the best and worst U.S. presidents.
For example, a 2021 survey of historians from C-SPAN ranked Trump at 41 out of all 45 presidents to that point. They ranked Lincoln first, followed by Washington, F.D.R., Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Harry S. Truman, Jefferson, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Obama rounding out the top 10.
YouGov’s ranking of the most popular presidents of all time ranks Trump slightly higher at 38, but he’s still in the bottom 10. Again, Lincoln landed in the top spot in that ranking, followed by Washington, Kennedy, F.D.R., Teddy Roosevelt, Jefferson, Obama, Adams and Carter in the top 10.
