President-elect Trump reportedly considers appointing AI czar
When the new administration takes over the White House, getting a handle on artificial intelligence and solidifying the country's dominance with the technology will apparently be a top priority.
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering the creation of a new role, an AI czar, to guide federal policy and government utilization of artificial intelligence, according to a report by Axios.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are leading Trump's newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, and will reportedly play a key role in the selection process for the AI czar.
The AI czar's duties would involve coordinating public and private resources to ensure the U.S. remains a leader in AI and working with agency chief AI officers to tackle issues such as waste and fraud.
"The federal government has a tremendous need for AI technology, and the new czar would likely work with agency chief AI officers (which were established in President Biden's AI executive order, and could survive Trump)," Mike Allen wrote for Axios.
"The idea has been kicking around Trumpworld for several months, as the transition considered structural changes at the White House to prioritize staffing for Trump's priorities," Allen added.
The potential appointment of an AI czar comes amid Trump's broader energy and technology strategies, with implications for the industrial and electric vehicle sectors.
Axios did not mention who would possibly fill the role. Trump's team did not comment on the report.
