Former President Donald Trump has appeared in court in New York City, where New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) has brought a case against him alleging fraud in his business dealings.
Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday to rant about James and the case, including the judge presiding over it, New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron.
Engoron found Trump liable for fraud in the case just last week, sparking outrage from the former president.
“I’m going to Court tomorrow morning to fight for my name and reputation against a corrupt and racist Attorney General, Letitia James, who campaigned on ‘getting Trump,’ and a Trump Hating Judge who is unfair, unhinged, and vicious in his PURSUIT of me,” Trump wrote in a post.
He went on to claim that the court's evaluation of his Florida estate was not what it was truly worth, saying that the judge’s valuations were fraudulent.
“He values Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, at 18 Million Dollars, when it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount. His valuations are FRAUDULENT in pursuit of Election Interference, and worse. THIS WHOLE CASE IS A SHAM!!! See you in Court – Monday morning,” he wrote.
Engron ruled last week that James had provided sufficient evidence to prove the crux of her case. He wrote in a 35-page ruling that the attorney general “demonstrated that there remain, at the very least, disputed issues of fact as to whether defendants violated these statutes, intentionally and materially.”
The decision resulted in Trump’s business being stripped of certain licenses and also raised the possibility of him losing control of some of his famed properties, The Hill reported.
In the suit brought against Trump, James claimed that his company falsely inflated and inflated asset valuations to receive benefits like better insurance options and lower taxes.
Trump has seemed upset about this specific point, posting again on Sunday about the court’s valuations of his assets, specifically Mar-a-Lago.
“Judge Engoron’s Valuation of Mar-a-Lago, the most spectacular property in Palm Beach, Florida, IS FRAUDULENT! He states a value of 18 Million Dollars, knowing full well that it is worth, perhaps, 50 to 100 times that amount,” Trump wrote in a separate Truth Social post.“Engoron is working diligently to misrepresent me, and my net worth, which is substantially MORE than is shown on my fully ‘disclaimed’ Financial Statements. I have not even included my most valuable asset – BRAND!”
However, the ranting didn’t stop there, as Trump went on to say that the judge should resign and be “sanctioned by the Courts for his abuse of power, and his intentional and criminal interference with the Presidential Election of 2024.”
“Likewise, Letitia James should resign for purposeful and criminal Election Interference. She is fully aware that Mar-a-Lago, and other assets, are worth much more than what she is claiming,” Trump wrote. “Both of these Democrat Operatives are a disgrace to New York, and to the United States of America!”
In total, Trump is facing 91 charges in four separate criminal cases.
