The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation after two models were found dead in their downtown LA apartments less than a mile away from each other two days apart.

Maleesa Mooney, 31, was found dead in her apartment on Sept. 12, two days after 32-year-old Nichole Coats was found dead in her apartment less than a mile away from Mooney’s, according to the LAPD.

Police have ruled that Mooney was murdered, though they have not made the same distinction for Coats.

Coats’ mother, Sharon Coats, spoke with FoxLA about her daughter’s death, saying that has been devastating for the family.

“I’m speechless right now,” Sharon Coats said. “I’m hurt, I’m heartbroken.”

While police have not said so, Sharon Coats says they think foul play was involved in her daughter’s death. She told FoxLA that when she went to her apartment, her bed was found bloodied.

“This is senseless, and I want some answers because my daughter is gone,” she told KTLA. “And it’s not fair. I want everybody to find out who did this to her. She shouldn’t be gone.”

Still, there has been no official word on the cause and manner of Coats’ death.

Police shared that the investigations into Coats’ and Mooney’s deaths are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-877-527-3247.
