NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Disturbing video shows an injured carriage horse lying on a midtown Manhattan street Thursday, reportedly after crashing into a car.
Bystanders captured video of the injured horse at W. 55th Street and Eighth Avenue around 5:15 p.m., according to the New York Post.
The animal rights group NYCLASS, known for its carriage horse advocacy, tweeted videos from bystanders. One bystander told the group, "I asked people near me and they said they saw the carriage go straight into the car."
One video shows the horse lying next to a car, while the other shows a bloody sidewalk and a damaged carriage.
The NYPD told the Post that a veterinarian treated the horse for a gash to the leg and that no other injuries were reported.
NYCLASS wants the City Council to fast-track legislation to ban carriage horses from city streets.
The group wrote on Facebook Thursday night: “NYCLASS demands Mayor Bill de Blasio, Speaker Corey Johnson and New York City Council END this animal abuse and public safety menace!”
