If you’ve heard kids - or even your coworkers - randomly shout “six seven!” and wondered what in the world it means, you’re not alone.
The phrase has become one of 2025’s biggest viral slang trends, and Dallas and Detroit and Chicago and other cities across the country finally got the perfect weather excuse to say it this morning when temperatures dipped to 67 degrees.
The catchphrase comes from a song called Doot Doot (6 7) by rapper Skrilla, which blew up on TikTok and Instagram. It really took off when NBA star LaMelo Ball - who just happens to stand 6-foot-7 - became the unofficial face of the meme. Edits of Ball paired with the song went viral, and soon “six seven” became shorthand for just about anything cool, random, or worth hyping.
Linguists say the appeal is in its absurdity - there’s no deeper meaning, and that’s exactly why it’s fun. It’s just a silly, rhythmic chant that stuck, and Gen Z and Gen Alpha are shouting it everywhere from basketball courts to classroom hallways.
So if you catch yourself blurting out “six seven” while sipping your coffee in the 67-degree early fall morning air, don’t worry - you’re right on trend. Sometimes nonsense is the point, and today’s weather was the perfect setup.
