A Walled Lake high school student may face legal repercussions after sharing a video of a teacher using a bathroom.
How did it happen? Authorities say the video was recorded after an online learning class ended. The teacher apparently didn't realize his or her camera was still on -- and live -- while going to the bathroom.
A student captured the video and allegedly shared it on snapchat.
Police are investigating the incident as an invasion of privacy. Capturing anyone on camera in a situation where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy is a felony punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a $2,000 fine.
School officials released a statement on the incident, writing, "We want to make you aware that there was an incident on a Zoom class yesterday at Walled Lake Central High School where both staff and students made choices that compromised social integrity. With the assistance and collaboration of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, a thorough investigation of the situation is underway."
They would not reveal any information about the student or teacher, including their gender, city of residence and age.
The district did say both the teacher and student are not in class, pending the results of an investigation.
