BERRIEN COUNTY (WWJ) -- A high speed chase between a metro Detroit man and police through southwest Michigan ended in a crash on Tuesday.
According to Michigan State Police, the pursuit began around 4 p.m. when troopers in Berrien County attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen by Enterprise Rental in Waterford Township.
The driver, a 66-year-old Farmington man, refused to pull over, which resulted in a high speed chase on westbound I-94 near Red Arrow Highway.
After a pursuit that stretched for several miles, the driver of the stolen vehicle appeared to purposefully crashed into guardrails on the right shoulder of the highway near Lakeside Road
He then lost control of the vehicle, crossed over three lanes and collided for a second time into the median, where the chase finally ended.
Michigan State Police reports that the man was taken to Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for non-life-threatening injuries, and was not immediately arrested.
Further legal action is pending while he receives medical treatment.
